American Idol Eligibility Requirements
- Candidates must be legal U.S. residents with the unrestricted right to work in the United States.
- The candidate’s age is a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 28 years old.
Initial Auditions
The first audition with a few other contestants in front of selectors which may include one of the show’s producers. Although auditions can exceed ten thousand in every city. In the final round, the contestants performed solo with a song of their choice. In the last season, a showstopper round was used.
Audience Voting
The contestants were decided by public vote for the semi-final round. Viewers were allowed to vote as many times as they can within the two-hour voting window. The number of text messages rapidly increased, reaching a million texts and the votes are counted and verified by telescope.
