List of Education Minister of India | Details: An education minister is a position in the governments of some countries responsible for dealing with education matters. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is responsible for the development of human resources and education. India had thirty education ministers and in this article, we discuss the list of education ministers of India.
About Education Minister
After Independence, India has the Ministry of Education. But in the year 1985, the government of Rajiv Gandhi agreed to change its name to the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), and with the public declaration of the new National Education Policy by the Government of Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Human Resources Development was changed to the Ministry of Education. It is divided into two departments.
- Department of school education and literacy
- Department of higher education
Department of school education and literacy: It deals with primary, secondary, higher secondary education, and adult education and literacy.
Department of higher education: It deals with university education, technical education, scholarship, etc
Objectives of Education Minister
- Formulating the National Policy on Education and ensuring that it is implemented in letter and spirit.
- The planned development includes increasing access to education and enhancing the quality of educational institutions across the country, even in areas where people do not have easy access to education.
- Special attention is paid to disadvantaged groups like the poor, females, and minorities.
- Provide financial assistance to worthy students from underserved communities in the form of scholarships, loan subsidies, and other forms in society.
- Encouraging international cooperation in the field of education, including working with the UNESCO, other governments, and universities to improve the educational opportunities in the country.
